Tripling Crusher Output with CastoChrome Blow Bars
The Challenge
A recycling company processing asphalt and concrete was experiencing low productivity with its Terex I-120 impact crusher. Using competitor ceramic blow bars and standard anvils, the crusher produced only 3.461 metric tonnes/hour when recycling concrete and 7.250 metric tonnes/hour for asphalt.
The standard anvils also wore out quickly and needed to be replaced three times per season, causing unnecessary downtime and higher maintenance costs. The company needed components that would last longer and improve production.
The Solution
Castolin Eutectic recommended upgrading to CastoChrome® Next-Generation Ceram blow bars and the CastoChrome® impact anvil. These parts are engineered for high wear resistance, using BHN 550+ CastoChrome and Ceram XP materials.
The new blow bars and anvil fit directly into the existing crusher setup and replaced the competitor components without any modifications.
The Outcome
After installation, production increased immediately:
- Concrete Recycling: from 3.461 to 9.689 metric tonnes/hour (+180%)
- Asphalt Recycling: from 7.250 to 24.44 metric tonnes/hour (+237%)
The CastoChrome anvil also lasted the entire season with no significant wear, compared to the previous anvil that required three replacements.
